Instrument Technician

Summary: Installs, repairs, adjusts and calibrates indicating, recording, metering and controlling instruments, electronics and test equipment, used to control and measure variables such as level, pressure, flow, temperature, analytical, pH, motion, and chemical composition by performing the following duties:

  • Disassembles malfunctioning instruments, electronics or test equipment such as process control valves, controllers, transmitters, recorders, pneumatics, electrical wiring/circuitry, multimeters, environmental enclosures, and weatherometers, and examines and tests, mechanisms and circuitry for defects.
  • Installs and troubleshoots industrial electrical wiring and runs wiring/conduits according to ladder diagrams for motors, switches, instruments, variable speed drives, A/C, D/C, 1 ph to 3 ph.
  • Troubleshoots and programs P.L.C. (programmable logic controllers) and DCS (digital control systems).
  • Replaces or repairs defective parts.
  • Reassembles instrument, electronics or test equipment, and tests assembly for conformance to specifications.
  • Inspects instruments, electronics or test equipment periodically and adjusts calibration to ensure functioning within specified standards.
